Abstract :
Broadcasting in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) provides route establishment and control functionality for many unicast and multicast protocols and as such is widely utilized as a building block for other network layer protocols. Based on the analysis of existing broadcasting algorithms, a new broadcast protocol, Receiver-deciding location aided broadcast protocol (RLABP) is put forward in this paper. In this protocol, a node, upon receipt of a broadcast message, follows the following procedure to eliminate the number of relay nodes: it first divides the transmission coverage area of previous relay node into grids, and then finds out the proper grids to carry out rebroadcast; and if the node is located in the relay grid then it prepares to transmit the message after a designated period of time. A detailed explanation of RLABP algorithm is presented. Three other well-selected broadcasting protocols, i.e., simply flooding, DSNEBA, AHBP, are also evaluated via simulation in comparison with RLABP. The simulation results have shown improved performance of RLABP in many aspects
