Abstract
The group mapping law was invented to improve the accuracy of the direct histogram specification; however, some peculiar results from visible channel detectors used in meteorological imaging from the communication, ocean and meteorological satellite (COMS) exhibit worse performance than the general direct histogram specification. A hybrid mapping law is proposed, which combines the group-mapping and single-mapping laws to improve accuracy. The proposed hybrid mapping law was applied to a relative compensation method for the degradation of visible channel detectors rather than the histogram specification. Comparative experiments show that the direct histogram specification results based on the hybrid-mapping law result in improved accuracy compared with other relative compensation activities for images of the Moon using visible channel detectors.
