Abstract :
Determining compatibility between Web services is necessary for several purposes including finding a substitute for a failed service. This paper presents a service type model for describing capabilities of Web services in terms of their signature, behaviour, and semantic attributes, and rules for service type compatibility are defined. This model will facilitate the substitute selection process. The paper also proposes a framework for invoking a substitute Web service automatically in the case of invocation failure.
