  • Abstract
Integrating an energy storage system (ESS), such as electric double-layer capacitor (EDLC) energy storage, into a static synchronous compensator (StatCom) can lead to improved controller flexibility by providing dynamic decentralized active power capabilities. For this application, the dynamic performance of StatCom/EDLC is important. This paper investigates the enhancement of power transmission system operation by integrating electric double-layer capacitor energy storage into a StatCom. In this paper, the double-layer capacitor classical equivalent circuit is adopted for dynamic modeling the EDLC. And a decoupled PI control scheme is designed. Simulation results are presented to verify the superiority of StatCom/EDLC with StatCom
