Abstract
This paper illustrates the features of an effective test bench that has been developed by the electrical drives laboratory of this university for characterizing different types of synchronous motor (e.g. surface mounted PM motors, interior PM motors, reluctance motors,...) which are designed and prototyped in the laboratory. The test bench is widely automated and programmable to derive the most important torque features of the aforementioned synchronous motors. The test bench is at first described and then test procedures, pre-and post-data processing, control and feeding algorithms are well detailed for a collection of measurements. Experimental results are also included in the paper
