Abstract :
In this paper we introduce the functional decomposition of mobility control functions for Ambient Networks and describe approaches to enable the interworking of these functions with state of the art technology such as 3rd Generation (3G) networks. The Ambient Networks (AN) Project aims at the development of a vision for future wireless and mobile networks, by means of an architecture that enables the integration of numerous different mobility mechanisms and protocols together with novel mobility services foreseen in systems beyond 3G. This architecture includes the Mobility Control Space, which embraces a set of different Functional Areas (FA) devoted to different key mobility-related operations.
