Abstract :
The article describes analytical method for optimizing scaled multistage amplifiers and comparators. The key step in the method is a generation of the global goal function that includes all final bock parameters with variable weights. The method demonstrates how the designer can find optimal values of design variables for achieving balanced key parameters: low noise, minimal delay and current consumption, high gain, and small block area. As an example of practical implementation of the proposed method, optimization of the comparator for high-resolution ADC was done. Comparison of analytical and Spectre simulation results are provided.
