            Abstract :
Fingertip pulse waves of 242 children in the 0-to 5-year-old age group were measured and chaos analysis was performed on these waves to calculate the Lyapunov exponent. In addition, a questionnaire was used to determine the mothers´ attachment to their children; the resulting degree-of-attachment values were classified into grades. The present study found that a child whose mother had a strong attachment showed a high Lyapunov exponent. A mother´s attachment is the most important factor affecting a child´s physical and mental growth. The Lyapunov exponent, calculated from the chaos analysis of children´s fingertip wave forms, provides an effective, scientific index of a mother´s attachment to her child.
