Abstract :
High-order contingencies that are defined in NERC planning standards are not usually monitored in real-time operations, rather they are studied mostly in planning studies. This paper shows that although the chance of occurrence for high-order contingencies is quite small, it can contribute significantly to the overall risk of reliable system operation.
