Web System for Electronic Nautical Charts Service Based On ArcIMS

The web service of Electronic Nautical Chart (ENC) data confirmed to Vector Chart Format (VCF) is not completely supported by ArclMS, because of its special data format and complicated nautical symbol. This paper proposes a new web system for ENC Service. In order to fulfill the specialized visualization, this system adopts MapObjects to extend ArcIMSs symbol, and then distributes ENC data by ArclMS and ArcSDE. The method presented by this paper decreases the difficulty of software development and shortens the period of software development. To validate the feasibility of proposed system, this paper implements a prototype system.
