University-Industry Synergies in Photonics and Optoelectronics: the Case of Brescia

This paper reports on the experience of the Laboratory of Optoelectronics of the University of Brescia in the creation, incubation and promotion of a cluster of Spin off companies operating in the field of Optoelectronics, optical measurements, plastic optical fibers and laser processing of materials.. From the beginning, the Laboratory commitment is based on the assumption that University should help Industry in the creation of scientific and technological grounds for technological innovation, in the creation of young entrepreneurs, using its best students, especially in hi-tech disciplines. On the other side, industry should help University in showing its need for innovation, and in stimulating and accepting innovation.
