Abstract :
Optical coupling between microresonators is often described within the framework of the coupled-mode theory, in which the field of the coupled system is presented as a linear combination of single modes of individual resonators. In this paper we show that the strong coupling between fundamental whispering gallery modes in microspheres cannot be described by this approach.
