Abstract
The paper analyzes future services in next generation optical transport networks. QoS and resilience requirements are derived for different services. Trends and evolutions in optical network architecture design are reviewed against the needs of incumbent providers. The paper proposes different network architectures for aggregation and core networks and investigates the suitability of solutions related to services. Design criteria for aggregation and core optical networks are identified and discussed with respect to different service requirements.
