Abstract
Single-phase brushless DC motor (SPBLDCM) has always been difficult to accurate computer-aided analysis, design and optimization for the lack of appropriate mathematical model of the motor. However, due to simple structure and high efficiency, it is widely used in low cost applications that require low starting torque. In the paper, a linear steady model of SPBLDCM is developed to predict the performance of the motor. It is suitable for the initial design and optimization of the motor geometry because of its low computational complexity. The optimal commutation advance angles for two different objectives, high electromagnetic power and low current ripple, are also presented based on this linear steady model The performance of the prototype is analyzed by both the developed linear steady model and the dynamic model. Both results agree well. The experimental results also validate the effectiveness of the model.
