Abstract
A deep-slot design technique aimed to improve the field- weakening capability of the surface mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor (SPMSM) is presented in this paper. The conventional SPMSM (CSPMSM) is poor in field-weakening capability due to its small inductance. The new design adopts deep- slot stator to improve the power density and widen the constant power speed range (CPSR). The impacts of some key parameters on CPSR have been analyzed using finite element method (FEM). The experiment result shows that the CSPR can be improved significantly.
