Abstract
A comprehensive power quality controller combined with thyristor controlled reactor (TCR) and hybrid active power filter (HAPF) is described in this paper for substations in power system. The HAPF topology presented in the paper is to add a small inductor in parallel with the active power filter (APF) controlled as a current source, in order to force the fundamental current flow through the additional inductor instead of the APF. HAPF acts as a classic reactive power compensator for load balancing and power factor correction. By resolving the equations of a single-phase lossless transmission line and the scheme´s main circuit structure and its operation principle, the relationship between the line voltages, the line length, the load and the compensation degree is analyzed. A control system of the line voltage with a HAPF is designed employing the dynamic reactive power compensation theory and utilizing the engineering design method. Then the simulation model is constructed by MATLAB/PSB. The simulation results demonstrate that the voltage-control system can rapidly regulate the output power of a HAPF, and can keep the line voltage stabilization and verify the effectiveness and advantage of the comprehensive power quality controller for substations in power system while the transmitted power might change.
