A reprint of the Smith´s Prize Exam taken by James Clerk Maxwell at Cambridge, February 1854. Question 8 is Stokes´ Theorem (Stokes was a personal friend of Maxwell). Maxwell completed the exam tied for first. Transcription errors in questions 1, 3, 4, and 15 corrected and a note added to question 7 (4 April 2005).
