Abstract :
A common feeding structure based on aperture coupling has been applied in order to compare a number of common fractal geometries in the application of patch antennas. The study discusses four patch antennas with examples of self-similarity and space filling designs. This paper further highlights a novel new multi-band fractal based on a modified Sierpinski triangle. All designs discussed have origins (´zero order´ basis) of a plain rectangular reference patch and are implemented with an aperture coupled feed. This reduces issues with other feed techniques such as choice of appropriate feed position and the small inherent bandwidth of direct contact techniques.
