Abstract :
A disc monopole antenna has wideband characteristics and simple shapes. Therefore, such an antenna may be suited for ultra-wideband communication systems. When such a disc monopole element is rounded cylindrically, the rounded disc monopole antenna features the compactness and has also ultra-wideband characteristics This paper describes the ultra-wideband characteristics of a rounded circular disc monopole antenna and a rounded semicircular one, and also studies the effects of a finite ground plane on wideband characteristics. Based on the theoretical results, it was verified that a rounded disc monopole antenna on a finite ground plane had the ultra- wideband characteristics and higher gain.
