Abstract :
A microstrip, fork fed, wide slot antenna, printed on high permittivity substrate has been developed for the transmission of Ultra Wide Bandwidth (UWB) signals into the human body. The proposed antenna has been developed and optimised from an existing design in [1] using an in house Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) program. The results of this simulation were found to have a good agreement with those found by experimentation. Using this computer model a new antenna was developed. The new antenna is of a compact size, has a wide impedance bandwidth and good transmission characteristics across the UWB frequency range, in a phantom equivalent to human breast tissue.
