Abstract :
The paper characterizes simultaneously measured peer-to-peer and conventional cellular communications in an indoor scenario at 5.8 GHz. The measurements show that the short term fading distributions of the cellular links follow the Rayleigh distribution. Moreover, body shadowing is a determining factor on the average link gain for both types of links: peer-to-peer channels have significantly lower average gains than cellular links because of body shadowing and near field loading of the antennas due to the handling. Finally, the branch powers can vary significantly for different transmit and receive antenna combinations on the links connecting any two communicating entities. The average link gains are determined by a log-normal distribution.
