Abstract :
In this paper, a novel electromagnetic bandgap structure (EBG) based in the capacitively loaded loop resonator (CCL) shape is analysed. This compact EBG-cell is based in a miniaturized hairpin resonator having coupled lines shape with a metallic via that connects the edge of the resonator with the ground plane. The new EBG surface has a complete bandgap with a 4% relative bandwidth, this means that it is aimed to suppress surface waves propagation in all directions in the substrate. The size reduction when compared with a mushroom-type EBG with similar unit cell size is larger than 40%. The presented compact resonator is very suitable to microwave integrated circuits, high efficiency antennas, and coupling reduction in arrays applications.
