Abstract :
In this work, we introduce a simple model which allows for the calculation of the far-field pattern of a Hertzian dipole antenna over an Artificial Impedance Surface (AIS). We show that the H and E plane patterns of the dipole can be obtained directly from the TE and TM polarized plane wave reflection coefficients of the AIS. A simple circuit model and a constant grid impedance assumption are used to facilitate the reflection coefficients calculation. The accuracy of the far-field model, the circuit model and the constant grid impedance assumption are tested by comparing with full- wave simulation results. The accuracy and limitations of the models are also analyzed.
