Abstract :
This paper is associated with the wireless platform of the ASTRALS project (Audio-visual STReaming plAtform for domestic Leisure and Security). The outcome from a number of investigations on the performance of wireless architectures that enable ultra-broadband wireless transmission is presented in the context and goals of the ASTRALS project. The specific architecture assessed by this work corresponds to a system with multiple antenna elements on the transmitter and the receiver (MIMO) employing a Spatial Multiplexing technique conforming to the 802.16 (WiMAX) standard. The physical layer performance of this system is assessed by means of real-time MIMO measurements in an indoor environment. The results are presented and discussed in terms of the Bit-Error-Rate (BER) for a standard and a proposed LoS-optimised antenna array architecture.
