Abstract :
This paper addresses the issue of selection of an UWB radar array with multiple transmit and receive antennas (MIMO) for the application of small area surveillance. A comparison of classical radar arrays with a single transmit antenna and those using MIMO arrays is presented through a simulator tool. The simulator allows to define a reference 3-D scenario with a set of point scatterers, and to obtain a synthetic raw data that is then used to form a 3-D image. Different topologies have been tested, showing how MIMO antenna systems provide a narrower beamwidth, higher side-lobes rejection ration and a larger alias-free area.
