Abstract
A two-dimensional FDTD-based subsurface imaging virtual tool is introduced. The virtual tool is used in the visualization of ultra-wide band (UWB) EM waves - subsurface object interactions. Subsurface images are then reconstructed using the synthetically generated data. Various narrow and UWB antenna array configurations and signal waveforms will be reviewed. The resolution and sidelobe reduction effectiveness of these configurations and waveforms will be discussed. Subsurface imaging as well as reconstruction capabilities and challenging problems will be discussed.
