Abstract :
In this paper it will be demonstrated that characteristic modes defined by Harrington and Mautz in the seventies, are perfect candidates to be used as entire-domain basis functions for large scale antenna problems. The main drawbacks that characteristic modes present are going to be studied thoroughly and solutions for them are going to be proposed for planar antennas.
