Abstract
This paper examines the feasibility of applying VSC-HVDC system to improve damping of power swings by utilizing its real and reactive power modulations. The proposed control strategy, based on the nonlinear system model and the energy function analysis, has been derived as well as its implementation with locally available signals. Enhanced system damping property is demonstrated through the simulation results.
