Abstract :
This paper presents the study of electrical power losses and the behaviors of an induction motor supplied by a 3- phase PWM inverter. The PWM Inverter operates at a constant switching frequency of 1.5 kHz while the fundamental frequency varies between 25 and 50 Hz. The motor torque is maintained constantly at 5.1 N.m . The DL1640 storage oscilloscope was used to measure the electrical power and the current signals at the input and output of the inverter. In addition, a thermocouple was used to measure the motor temperature. The results of tests revealed that the values of the electrical power input at the 25 Hz inverter frequency was lowest and the electrical power loss of the motor was lowest in the frequency range of 35-40 Hz. The motor temperatures tended to be higher at the lower fundamental frequencies than at the high fundamental frequencies. The advantage of this system is that it enables researcher to determine how to improve and develop the electrical drive system of induction.
