Abstract
The design study of a 34 GHz, 708 kW gyroklystron amplifier is presented. To enhance the power, the device has four cavities and operates in the TE02 mode. Stagger tuning was employed to broadband the device. The nonlinear theory is used to calculate the optimized magnetic field. The sizes of the cavities were optimized to minimize the TE011 mode and to suppress parasitic oscillations. The design yields a 34 GHz, 708 kW peak power, 47 dB saturated gain, 50.6% electron efficiency, and a -3 dB bandwidth of over 510 MHz (1.5%) with a 70 kV, 20 A electron beam by PIC simulation.
