  • Abstract
We demonstrate a concept of one-dimensional photonic crystals acting as modulators of terahertz radiation with an optical control. The devices are made from dielectric platelets and a semiconducting defect which leads to a defect level in the forbidden band gap. The transmittance at the defect level can then be controlled by photoexcitation of the semiconductor.
