Abstract
This paper reviews the current activity going on at the Material Science and Chemical Engineering Department at Politecnico di Torino in collaboration with the Physics Department of Politecnico di Milano, concerning novel tellurite glasses for photonic applications. The fabrication and characterization of novel tellurite glasses with the aim of obtaining fiber laser sources operating in the near infrared, will be reviewed. The two main activities deal with the investigation of new fluorotellurite host glasses with lower phonon energy and, in parallel, the study of tellurite glasses containing Yb and Tm ions.
