Abstract :
This paper proposes a performance enhancement for cooperative wireless communications by using a smart antenna system. We also propose a novel adaptive protocol, based on a maximum signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) criterion with an appropriate scaling factor, that could properly select the transmission strategy in each transmission period. The SNR for each transmission strategy is also investigated. Simulation results show that the proposed smart-antenna-based cooperative communication system with adaptive protocol is superior to existing schemes.
