Abstract
A crucial pretreatment of computing the volume of pleural effusion is to segment and extract the effusion efficiently; cubic Hermite curve fitting and bounding box technology are proposed here. The boundary points will be identified automatically as long as the central column of image is given, the tangents of boundary points are estimated by Bessel method and the curve is sure to possess the feature of boundary. The effusion enclosed by curves is extracted by bounding box technology accurately and quickly at last. Experiments show the efficiency of the new method.
