Implementation of network listen modem for WCDMA femtocell

With the increasing bandwidths requested by users of mobile telecoms systems it is becoming increasingly important for the network providers to be able to deploy smaller base stations to provide coverage in hot-spot areas. Adding a base station into a network using current technology requires manual network planning (e.g. frequencies and scrambling codes). This approach does not scale to the number of femtocells that are going to be deployed in the near future so a new technique will be required that includes scanning the air interface for available resources.
