Abstract
In this paper, we develop a new estimator of DOA named Synthetic Spatial spectrum Method (SSM) to beamspace processing. Beamspace transformation maps the full dimension sensor space data onto a lower dimension space. Then the SSM deals with covariance matrix of beamspace data directly. It is synthesized with classical MUSIC spatial spectrum and signal subspace projection spatial spectrum which is weighted with reciprocal of principle eigenvalue. For two closely spaced emitters, the SSM provides better resolution performance in snapshot deficient scenario. And beamspace processing improve the calculation speed. So the proposed estimator is especially suitable for resolving moving sources. Computer simulation results show it is better than the MUSIC and the beamspace MUSIC algorithm.
