Abstract
We address in this paper the problem of grooming traffic from edge IP networks onto optical backbones. We study the overlay and augmented models for IP over Optical networks, as defined in RFC3717. Though many publications address dynamic traffic grooming in IP over Optical networks, only very few of them consider procedures for the augmented architecture. In this work we propose a solution that is based on the algorithm presented in Koo et al. (2004). The original algorithm is not suited for IP traffic, thus we adapted it to our scenario and we introduce two simplified versions of this grooming solution as well, one suitable for the augmented and one (simpler) for the overlay architecture. To highlight the importance of the information passed between the layers and the role of the algorithm structure we compare the performance of the algorithms through simulations.
