Abstract
China experienced a sharp increase in wage inequality between unskilled and skilled workers in the late 1990s. Multiple factors lie behind the notorious skill income inequality. This paper describes the evolution of skill premium during the last two decades and analyzes the reasons leading to the result in a simple supply and demand framework. Finally, this paper comes up with some proposals on decreasing skill premium and income inequality.
