Abstract :
In order to optimize the water resources distribution and meet the water demand of growing economy, there are more and more long distance pressure water delivery projects. These works have very long pipeline with rising and falling arrangement, cost huge investment and have complex fluid conditions. Therefore, great attentions are paid to the optimal design of these projects to ensure the safety operation of them. This paper studies a real long distance gravity-fed pressure pipeline system. The longitudinal section of the pipeline is determined. Pressure rating of pipe is determined by pipe working pressure. Linear programming is used to optimize the design of the pipeline system. The fluid transients caused by closure of end valve of pipeline are computed by the method of characteristics and the closure procedure of butterfly valve which can safe the long term operation of the project is put forward.
