Abstract :
Todays consumer system-on-chip (SoC) are increasingly complete in that they integrate all major functions of an appliance such as a hybrid TV into a single die. Whilst this enables the cost efficient realisation of complex electronics systems, it does not allow for easy differentiation between appliance manufacturers or the provision of additional features in the high end market segment. Differentiating features are often added using programmable logic devices that are attached to the main SoC using high speed serial buses. This talk discusses the interface requirements using the example of picture quality enhancement in a digital TV.
