Abstract :
An interactive incremental sketching design system for rapidly constructing 3D solid models has been implemented. The system, dubbed Sketch3D, provides a calligraphic interface on which users can freely create feature-based solid models by sketching feature strokes with a pen or a mouse. Our method is very simple and efficient. Once the user finishes sketching the profile section and trajectory path of the feature, the system can automatically capture userpsilas design intention, and recognizes and beautifies the sketching strokes, then constructs the suitable sweeping feature-based model according to the location relationship between the profile section stroke and the trajectory path stroke. This method overcomes some deficiencies of traditional CAD systems to create conceptual models and some disadvantages of current sketch-based modeling systems. Some examples show that the sketching feature-based modeling method is suitable for rapidly expressing designerspsila creativity in the stage of conceptual design.
