Abstract :
With the rapidly changing nature of our global environment, knowledge is playing a more important role in enhancing personal, social and cultural development. So the concept of lifelong learning is now expanding to the areas of popular culture and the digital visual electronic media. E-learning, as a Web-based instructional approach is widely used in formal and informal education. In this paper the connotation of lifelong learning is illustrated. Then it mentions the important role of e-learning in personal and social development. And the characteristics and advantages of e-learning is analyzed, such as its effects on promoting lifelong learning. In the end of this paper, it is discussed that the coupling between e-learning and lifelong learning.
