Abstract
Computer-supported collaborative learning is an emerging branch of the learning sciences concerned with studying how people can learn together with the help of computers. As we will see in this paper, such a simple statement conceals considerable complexity. The design and implementation of E-learning with technology turns out to be quite intricate. The inclusion of computers and networks has problematized the very notion of learning and called into question prevailing concerns about how to realize the actual and effective E-learning. It is particularly important in designing and implementing collaborative and distributed learning application online. This paper discusses three aspects of E-learning system: theoretical framework, function components and technology architecture. In each of these areas, it provides both theoretical grounding and practical advice for designing and implementing effective E-learning system.
