Region-wise meta-data in JPEG2000-encoded imagery

This publication introduces a new approach for adding semantic information to digital imagery. To achieve this, meta-data is directly fused with the content of the associated image region by applying data hiding techniques. This overcomes different existing problems and the thereby imposed drawbacks of a loose coupling between content and meta-data. The proposed approach is based on imagery already encoded with JPEG2000 and provides not only a high embedding capacity but also retains a very good quality of the modified image. The most beneficial feature, however, is its ability to keep the assigned meta-data even if an image region is moved into another context.
