Abstract :
There is a visible evolution in the telecommunication networks from pure voice traffic to the service provisioning. In this article, we focus on the evolution of the service provisioning platforms, from the Intelligent Networks towards the IP Multimedia Subsystem as the Next Generation Networks implementation. We stress the latest progress in the standardization activities, like common IMS and multimedia services provisioning. This article also highlights most important activities and projects in the field of the IMS.
