  • Abstract
    Product form design is a very creative work in the development of a new product. It is a process of combining visual thinking and abstract thinking. Although the traditional 3D CAD systems are capable of building complicated and accurate 3D models, it is difficult to build 3D model based on a rough sketch in the stage of product conceptual form design. The TRIZ theory and a kind of creative template method are applied to product form creative design, and a computer aided design system is developed in this paper. The system comprises creative knowledge base, form creative design method database, form knowledge base and computer integrated environment of product conceptual design. This paper analyzes the main surface features that can affect the form of a product, and proposes that we can carry out the computer-aided product form design by defining surface features of the product’s exterior curving surface in the stage of product conceptual design, and then applies CAD technology to the product conceptual design in advance of schedule.
