Abstract :
The elastic deformation due to grinding force generates a machining-error in the radial direction of the crank pin which varies with the rotating angle of the crankshaft journal in crank pin non-circular grinding. This machining-error can be reduced and even avoided through correcting the movement of the grinding wheel according to the elastic deformation of the crank pin in advance. In this paper, a calculation model is developed to find the deformation due to grinding force at any rotating angle of the crankshaft journal. The model includes both the geometrical relationships unique to non-circular grinding and the key grinding variables, such as the forces obtained by grinding force resolution and the crankshaft stiffness coefficients. The model is verified using an experiential device, with good agreement between the measured and calculated results. Simple operation and light workload make this calculation model suitable for production applications in crank pin non-circular grinding.
