Abstract :
We present an integer-N PLL architecture for 60 GHz OFDM systems compatible with the IEEE 802.15.3c channel plan. Based on a sliding-IF architecture using a 48 GHz voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) and a 19.2 MHz crystal reference, we predict an rms phase error below three degree after correction of the common phase error. This will enable a silicon-based low-cost millimetre-wave transceiver for Gbps OFDM transmission. Requirements for the crystal noise floor and the VCO phase noise are also formulated.
