Abstract
The distance between the two ground wires of ZBS2 tower used in UHVAC transmission lines is far off. It is necessary to study the lightning shielding properties of center-phase line. Therefore, we adopt line model with the scale of 63:1, considering the voltage of wire, and using the operation wave approaching the natural thunder and lightning wave. By a number of pulse discharge experiments, the greatest altitude of center-phase shielding failure has been obtained. The critical shielding failure current of center-phase converted is less than lightning withstand level, and the result calculated severally by the EGM and the LPM is verified. The experimental research indicates that there is a certain possibility that center-phase shielding failure happens on ZBS2 tower, but it will not lead to flashover.
