Abstract
Thrust ripple, determined by the magnetic field, is a significant factor to affect the performance of linear motor system. This paper evaluates the effect of the two magnet shapes, rectangle shape and Halbach array, for the flat short secondary type permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (PMLSM). A novel design that makes the PM into a curved shape is presented. Then, each shape analysis is fulfilled to find the key factor that affects the motor performance, and some optimization is applied in finite element method. Finally, it presents the thrust waveforms of prototypes with rectangle shape PM and curved shape PM. The experiment shows, PMLSM with optimized rectangle shape PM and curved shape PM can lower the sinusoidal distortion of magnetic field and thrust efficiently.
